On the Dolphins interception return for a touchdown at the end of the first half…
Going into the locker room, we felt good about the momentum we’d gathered. Took our shot off the interception to try to get one more. Just a very unfortunate play at the end of the half when we felt like we had captured momentum. Cut it to a four-point game and gave it right back to them. Obviously, it took away the momentum we had built.

On the play of Tim Boyle…
I thought he stayed in there. Kept battling. I’ll get to the tape and just take a look at all of it to make sure I am making the smart answer. I’ll have a better answer for you tomorrow. I thought he battled. I thought he did some good things. Some things he needs to be better at obviously.

On why Allen Lazard was inactive…
Allen was down. Obviously, my decision. There are things that we all need to get better at, including him. He is going to be here for the next year-and-a-half. He’s going to be a part of this. Just wanted to make sure that one, I wanted to get some of the young guys an opportunity to play; and two, it’s kind of a challenge to see if he can recapture the edge and who he is and the person that we have a lot of faith in. He’s a good football player. I do believe that. For Allen, he will be back sooner rather than later.

On if he feels Lazard ‘lost his edge’…
No. Edge is probably the wrong word, I’m sorry. I’ll speak for him: he hasn’t been playing up to his standard. Everyone is pressing on that side of the ball to make something happen. There are parts of his game that need to get better.

On if he is nearing a loss for how to turn the offense around…
We’ll keep digging. We’ve got to keep digging. Have to keep preparing. We have to keep coaching. We have to keep playing. We just have to keep trying to find ways to move the ball and score.

On if he will be considering changing play callers…
No. There is no consideration.

On how much the self-inflicted wounds continue to hurt the Jets…
I’d say the most disappointing one was probably the one at the beginning of the game (personal foul on Quinton Jefferson). Didn’t need to happen. The one with C.J. (Mosley), it’s a glancing blow on the helmet. Shouldn’t have been called. The scrum on the field goal with Micheal (Clemons), I think it’s inadvertent. He’s pointing and accidently hit the referee, but it’s still a foul. There will be mistakes in the game. We’ll continue to try to find ways to clean those up.

On the Jets defensive struggles on third down…
They did a really nice job creating third-and-five or less, putting themselves in manageable situations. Whether it was man winning those one-on-one battles or finding the soft spots in zone and getting rid of the ball, I thought they had a good plan and they executed really well.

On if they are ‘simply outmanned’ on the offensive side of the ball…
We’re young on that side. I know they’re fighting. They’re working their tails off. Coaches are trying to figure out how to put them in the best position possible. They’re practicing. They’re working. They’re deliberate. Everyone is doing their best.

On if he would consider starting Trevor Siemian at quarterback next week…
I’m not there yet.

On if he is worried about his job security…
No, I’m not worried.

On the status of Mekhi Becton and Duane Brown…
Hopefully, we get Mekhi back next week. As for Duane, activated him. Tried to give him one more week to get his mind right. Probably could have played today, but it was a little bit late in the week when we all felt comfortable with where we were with him. Had him dressed for an emergency only. We’ll see if we can get him back into the fold next week.

On if he mentioned the Hail Mary play to the team at halftime…
Always put it on me because I made the decision to take a shot at the endzone. Just let the team know just put it to bed, put it on me, let’s go try to work our way back in one play at a time. That was pretty much it.

On if any of the offensive coaches suggested taking a knee…
No.

On why he is not considering changing play callers…
It would be a really long answer, answer for another day. When you look at it all – and again, it’s a little bit of everything, whether the calls could be better, whether the execution can be better, whether our one-on-one battles could be better – it’s taking advantage of the situations we have when we get them. Do I think play caller will fix that? I don’t know. I don’t have an answer for you on that one.

On if the Jets defense is wearing down…
I’m disappointed with the way we finished in the fourth. I know guys are selling out, trying to get the ball and all that stuff, especially on that last touchdown run. They’re batting. Took the ball away three times today. Scored on defense. Gave us a chance at halftime to cut it to one score. We were able to hold them to a couple of field goals. It’s a high-octane offense. Felt good about the way the defense played, just didn’t like the way we finished.

On the Hail Mary…

Yeah, I mean, we’re coming off a pick-six and then another interception by D.J. (Reed). Momentum’s our way. I think we had one second left and wanted to see if we could get into the end zone. (Miami did a) good job of keeping the rush. I tried to get out of the pocket to the right and by the time I got it up, I didn’t feel like I got enough on it, but just trying to give our guys a chance and number 8 (Jevon Holland) made a really good play. I’ve never really seen or been a part of anything like that, but it’s a good learning experience. You have to have a cover plan for just in case interceptions happen like that. But, it was frustrating. But, yeah, that’s what I saw. I tried to give our guys a chance and I think it fell a little short.

On what he was thinking Holland was running at him…

Yeah, it’s one of those rare situations. When you throw an interception and you see guys running, you try to kind of turn into the safety. And he got through everyone, it was me and him, and he made a good little move, he cut back in the field and came back and stumbled me a little bit. Unfortunate, I couldn’t keep my feet and get him down. But it’s one of those things where an interception, most of the time you see an interception you start turning and run backwards. It’s extremely unfortunate for us.

On how he would assess his start and what wasn’t going right…

Yeah, I think (Nathaniel) Hackett called a good game. I think we shot ourselves in the foot too many times. I think a couple false starts put us behind the sticks. A couple things that I missed. I missed that ball to Ruck (Jeremy Ruckert). I think my first incompletion there to Ruck, right over his head. I think that would’ve been a huge gain. I missed a couple run-alert things. But I feel like I was seeing it well. They played a pretty good scheme on defense. Coach (Vic) Fangio does a good job mixing stuff up. But I think we kind of caught rhythm a little bit in that fourth quarter when we went no-huddle and they kind of simplified some of their stuff and I was able to see it and get the ball out. But for the most part, I felt like I saw it well and I got the ball out of my hands. I tried not to take sacks, but it’s part of the game.

On being sacked seven times…

Yeah, it’s just coverage issues. At some point I have to assess the fact that I can’t put the ball in harm’s way. There’s a point in time where you just have to eat the ball and get down. Yeah, that’s the short answer to that one.

On the offensive line…

Yeah, I think they did a good job. I think on a short week with a new left tackle and Xavier (Newman) coming back at right guard, I think we did a good job. Communication was on point. I think they battled all four quarters. I love those guys. I think all five played really well. Tipp’s (Joe Tippmann) doing a really good job as a rookie playing center, making all the calls. So, I’m extremely impressed with him. Lake’s (Laken Tomlinson) been a strong presence at left guard. And Max (Mitchell) always battles. You know what you’re going to get from Max. So, I’m pleased with those guys and I’m proud to be their quarterback tonight.

On if he thinks he could be better if given another opportunity…

Yeah, I have no clue what happens moving forward but I can control what I can control and I know we’re going to go back and Coach (Saleh) said it best at the end of the game in the locker room. We have to get our minds right to have the best six weeks of our life moving forward. We have six more games. We’re going to put our best foot forward and we’re going to try to win all six. Yeah, we’re going to keep pushing. We’re going to keep fighting on offense.

On if it was helpful to have Aaron Rodgers on the sideline…

Yeah, Aaron’s a peaceful, calming presence for me. He does a good job of painting a good picture for a quarterback. My first time, in preseason, playing, he was on the sideline in street clothes, he was able to kind of communicate some stuff to me. So, kind of felt the same thing from him tonight. He came onto the field a few times and told me a few things that he was thinking about. But, Aaron’s obviously a close friend and I’m grateful for him and I was glad he was on the sideline tonight helping me out.

On what he learned today…

I think that our intermediate passing game, especially in that second half, got going a little bit. I think we can build on that. But I think we can lean on the guys making plays for us—Conk (Tyler Conklin), Breece (Hall), 17 (Garrett Wilson)—I think we have to go and scheme those guys up and I think those are our playmakers and I have to a better job getting the ball out on time. I think, obviously, not all seven of those (sacks) are on the offensive lineman. I think the majority of them are on me. But, like I said earlier, it’s the assessment of putting the ball in harm’s way or taking a sack. We’re going to continue to build. I think Coach Hackett’s going to continue to fight. Coach Down (Todd Downing) is going to continue to fight. We love all those guys. Onto next week.

On if they got closer as an offense today…

Obviously, I do think Tim (Boyle) did a good job commanding things out there. So, I’m proud of him for that. I think he was back there, he did a good job at the line of scrimmage, good job playing with cadence and trying to help us in that aspect. I really give him his kudos for doing that. I think he did a good job today, but as an offense, I don’t think we were much closer.

On if he feels outmanned…

We’re all grown men. We all made it to this level for a reason. Like I’ve talked about in the past, it’s a good opportunity for a lot of young guys if they take advantage of it. It ends up being on all of us. We all got to help each other, that’s the beauty of football. We all got to be better as individuals, as a group. I never want to say anybody’s ever outmanned, right? We all made it here for a reason, we’re all grown men.

On what he wants to see out of his teammates…

Obviously, we got to try to erase this one, erase this one and figure out how the (expletive) we’re going to make sure this doesn’t spiral downwards any more than it already is. We got six games left and it’s a good opportunity to go try and win six, but we got to figure some things out. We also get a little break with a Friday game, know if everybody can take a break, see their family and we can recoup.

DL John Franklin-Myers

On the turnovers…

I think any time you force three turnovers, get three takeaways you are doing the right thing. We understand that we just can’t let them score thirty points so personally I don’t think we played that well, coming into half time I think we played well, better in the first half, second half kind of got away from us. Got to be better.

On the toll the defense experiences from playing so much…

I mean it is our job. We understand, again I just spoke to Rich (Rich Cimini) and you understand that sometimes you have to do a little more and sometimes offense has to do a little more, special teams, whatever it maybe. So it is part of it, so you can’t exactly complain for having to do your job.

On the pick six hail mary…

I mean, definitely something you don’t want to see. But we played well in the first half so definitely confident going into half time that we were going to be able to make that up and we didn’t so just got to be better.

On how the defense has played the last couple weeks…

We could be better. We started off fast today, we just got to finish faster.

On the amount of time the defense is on the field…

I don’t know. We are just out here playing football. It is a blessing to be able to play this game, it is a blessing to be able to play on Sundays, it is a blessing to be able to be part of history and play the first Black Friday game. Unfortunately, we lost, but it is a blessing to just be able to play, anytime we are on the field it is blessing.

On the last six games…

I don’t know. I just take it one week at a time. I don’t look too far ahead, because we got more urgent things we have to stay focused on.

On why it was hard for the offense to have success…

I couldn’t tell you. I feel like right now, I’m just trying to make a play. It’s been hard for me to get an open space and get some good looks. It’s a lot of guys pressing and stuff right now. Just trying to press and make a play every time you get a ball and that’s not good because it causes little mistakes like, I’ve been making mistakes I never made in my career. So, it’s frustrating. Just trying to find a way to get better every week and trying to stay positive. Just being one of the best players on offense. I’m trying to step in that leadership role which is hard for me because I’ve always been a guy that just did my one eleven, did my job. It’s been difficult, but I love our guys. Our guys come to work every day. We’re just not getting the results we want.

On keeping the team together…

We have great leaders on our team and we’re still trying to grow on offense. We just got to take pride in it. I come out there every week, I know I’m the vocal point of every defense. It’s just been hard trying to be the spark, trying to give Garrett (Wilson) some help. Help Garrett get open. Trying to help Conk (Conklin), give Conk some help. We just got to come together, be an offense as one and everybody has to take pride in their job.

On being the vocal point of every defense…

When you’re the vocal point of a defense everybody knows essentially what you’re going to do each play, everybody’s trying to stop you. So, it’s been hard, but you have to kind of come in and find a way, keep getting better, keep finding ways to make plays, because they’re not coming as often as I’d like. So, I’m trying to which my touches make a play. It’s been difficult, but we’re just trying to get better every week.

OL Laken Tomlinson

On if he was surprised that the hail mary was called…

Our job is to go out there and do whatever the coach asks us to do and make the most out of any play that’s given to us. We were going out there, we were planning to score, we were going to score. That was our job to do.

On how he felt Tim (Boyle) handled himself…

I thought he handled the huddle really well. Definitely, I think some things that he did definitely put us in good situations. Mixing up the cadence to get those guys to get those penalties for sure. I thought he handled the huddle really well.

On if he had any chance at tackling Jevon Holland on his pick six…

Like I said, it’s something crazy that happened and when you see something like that, obviously, you chase the ball and try to go get that guy down. When I saw it, I was trying to protect him from trying to bounce back inside. I was just trying to do my best to go out there and disrupt his path and try to get him down.
